Today’s food choice is Long John Silver’s Baja Fish Taco, offered nationwide, for 99 cents each.  This is a lower cost, less filling option when compared to their Seafood Wraps (made with flat bread rather than a plain flour tortilla).  The Baja Fish Taco features a standard fish plank, shredded lettuce, “baja sauce”, and LJS’ signature “crumblies” on a plain white flour tortilla shell.  And exactly as the commercial leads you to believe, it really “Sounds Wierd, Tastes Delicious”.

All of the ingredients, while simple, blend well, and are pleasing to the pallette.  The fish plank is exactly what you would expect from LJS, the lettuce and the baja sauce add a slight amount of tangy flavor, but don’t overwhelm the whole package.  The plain flour tortilla wraps around everything nicely, though this Yum! Brands restaurant does rebadge the Taco Bell soft taco wrapper, giving the fish taco the same manageability as the soft taco for eating on the run.

Long John Silver’s will be offering a “happy hour” of sorts on this item on July 14th from open to 2:30pm at all of their locations for customers to receive a “free Baja Fish Taco” (participation may vary, one per customer, must sell your soul to Yum! Brands to participate). This would be a great time to give it a whirl, if you’re too cheap to forgo the $.99 price tag to try one on any other day.

On the E$ Eats scale of eatability vs. value (on a scale from 1 to 10), I give this item an 9.  It provides a filling portion that can easily satisfy bigger eaters for around $5 with a drink.  Two of these Baja Fish Tacos is easily a lunch, perhaps three for a filling dinner time.
